Patchwork pride

Christ Church Federated UMC/UCC, located on Dane Street in Kennebunk, presented its inaugural quilt show and art exhibit luncheon in June, featuring 82 handmade quilts, 48 wall hangings and 17 other works of art, all owned and most made by church members. It is hoped the show, which was the brainchild of new pastor Susan Ellery, who joined the congregation in November, will become an annual affair. Showing off the many quilts displayed in the church sanctuary are, from left, Dick Thompson — who included 20 items made by his late wife, quilting teacher Judy Thompson — Pastor Ellery, Sheila Moody, Patricia Desharnais and Marcia Carter. The church’s next event is a patriotic concert and ice cream social, featuring half a dozen performers, set for 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 7.
