Postal worker up early, delivering packages

To the editor:

At 6:30 one morning I went into my kitchen and, much to my surprise, saw a truck from the Kennebunk Post Office pull up our driveway and deliver a package. This, I remind you, was at 6:30 a.m. And that got me to thinking.

With a week until Christmas, most of us talk about how busy we are, whether we’re working, shopping, decorating, wrapping presents, baking or whatever. With all this activity, it’s easy to forget those who are just as busy but, in addition, work extra long hours because their job and the holiday season demand it.

To be at my doorstop at 6:30 a.m., I imagine that this postal worker was on the job at 5:30 a.m. or earlier and I assume he or she puts in much more than an eight-hour day.

With that in mind, I just wanted to express my thanks and appreciation to the hard workers at the local post office and to wish them a happy holiday season. On Christmas Day, I hope the only package that you handled was a gift wrapped with your name on it.
