Shay Stewart-Bouley will be the keynote speaker for Kennebunk’s 15th annual breakfast in honor of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, Jan. 15 at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church.

Warren McPherson will provide vocal and keyboard music.

Stewart-Bouley’s fame is spreading fast through her blog and website, Black Girl in Maine, which she introduced in 2008.

The blog often focuses on matters of social justice and systemic racism. Her writing on race and diversity also has been featured in a variety of Maine and national publications.

Born in Chicago, she had to learn a bit of Yankee ingenuity when she moved to Maine in 2002. She bridged her work with the homeless in Chicago to working with low-income and at-risk youth in southern Maine.
