To the editor:

Maine’s senators, Angus King and Susan Collins, understand the importance of conserving our natural resources, reducing carbon pollution and growing our economy to benefit all of us.

Let’s thank both senators who voted no on Oct. 19 to opening up our vast Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. That’s 12 billion barrels of crude oil we don’t need.

But they shouldn’t have to vote on every land lease. Congress should stop subsidizing fossil fuels that cause climate change and allow the market to enable cheap, clean renewable energy and the growing economy they are already delivering.

Please join our nonpartisan York County Citizens Climate Lobby group (www.citizensclimatelobby.org) and support a carbon fee and dividend policy that will slow climate change, add two million jobs and pay a monthly cash dividend to every household.

It is also promoted by George Schulz, Jim Baker and their conservative Climate Leadership Council (www.clcouncil.org).
