Read about dam removal on Raritan River

To the editor:

I have been a resident of Kennebunk for 25 years and have been reading the varying opinions about removal of the dams along the Mousam River. My opinion is nature knows best, and the health of the river would be better served to return it to its natural state by removing the dams. I also remember major flooding on Intervale Road along the Mousam years ago which resulted in the town of Kennebunk buying out residents who could not or would not rebuild their homes. I’ve wondered if the dam at Route 1 contributed to that flooding.

As a former resident of New Jersey, I still read the Star Ledger online. Here is a link to a story about the removal of dams along the Raritan River. It’s an interesting article and provides a lot of ecological reasons for removal of dams that are no longer functioning. www.nj.com/somerset/index.ssf/2017/08/dam_removal_will_benefit_fish_envi....
