Raised in Kennebunk, Pat was the son of the late John and Louise Walsh. He attended Kennebunk schools and was a graduate of Kennebunk High School, class of 1965.
He was active in many school and athletic activities and spent many summers working at Webhannet Golf Club. He later attended Nichols College. After proudly serving in the United States Coast Guard, Pat was employed for over 40 years as an executive in the printing forms industry. He retired four years ago and was actively enjoying a life filled with travel, dear friends and family.
In addition to his family, his true passion was actively exploring the rocky shores of Kennebunk Beach.
His love of Kennebunk Beach was shared blissfully with his grandchildren through boating, fishing and lobstering, and appreciating full moons over the shiny Maine waters, which quickly became known as “Pooka’s Moon” by the grandkids.
He took great pride in passing his affection for the area down to his children and grandchildren – the fifth generation of Walshes to walk rocky Middle Beach. The very location where his grandfather and father both served as proprietors of the Bass Rock Hotel.
Pat is predeceased by his in-laws, Roland (Pat) and Eloise Reilly, and his brother-in-law Barry Reilly.
In addition to the love of his life, Karen (Reilly) Walsh, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage, he leaves his two children, son Michael and his wife Shelly of Winchester, Massachusetts, and Kennebunk, and daughter Katie and her husband Michael McCarthy of Marblehead, Massachsetts.
Pat was the brother of Marybelle Walsh Seawell of Vinalhaven, the brother-in-law of Barbara Reilly of Los Alamitos, California, and uncle to several nieces and nephews. He was cherished and known as “Pooka” by his five adoring grandchildren: Addison, Griffin, Gracyn, Cameron and Ryan.
A summertime service at Kennebunk Beach will be planned and announced by Bibber Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Pat to the Melanoma Research Fund, Massachusetts General Hospital, 125 Nashua St., Suite 540, Boston, MA 02114; or the Kennebunkport Conservation Trust, PO Box 7004, Cape Porpoise, ME 04014.
