A bone-chilling 40-degree water temperature, accompanied by 30 degrees in the air with the wind chill, could not stop hardy souls from running into the Atlantic Ocean at Gooch’s Beach in Kennebunk on New Year’s Day, as participants in the 16th annual Atlantic Plunge, sponsored by Caring Unlimited. According to Public Awareness Coordinator Emily Gormley, Sunday’s event, dubbed “Freezin’ For a Reason,” raised roughly $20,000 for the agency’s domestic violence proventions programs.
