Will question all public policy decisions of all presidents

To the editor:

In response to Robert Powers’ Dec. 9 letter to the Kennebunk Post, suggesting we just get over the election of Mr. Trump, I say, never.

I will not accept a president who regularly attacks citizens and bullies them with childish insults from his Twitter account. I will not accept a president who appoints only billionaires and generals to his Cabinet. I will not accept a president who treats women like chattel. I will not accept a president who never reads a book. I will not accept a president who is a racist.

I will not accept the appointment of a secretary of Housing and Urban Development whose only qualification for the position is once having lived in a house.

I will not accept the appointment of a secretary of Health and Human Services who wants to gut the Affordable Care Act, thereby leaving millions of citizens to fend for themselves.

I will it not accept the appointment of a secretary of education who doesn’t believe in public education.

And, I will certainly never accept the appointment of a head of the Environmental Protection Agency who has regularly attempted to sue that agency, who is himself a product of the fossil fuel industry and who believes that climate change and global warming are hoaxes.

I will question every public policy decision that this president will make, just as I examined the policies of every past president. However, I will scrutinize every word this president will make very carefully, because the consequences of his words and his actions could affect us for decades or longer.
