Charles Doane

Lt. Cmdr Charles Bradley “Bud” Doane, USN, Ret. 80, a resident of Kennebunk, passed away Oct. 21, 2016.

Charles was born in Littleton, New Hampshire, the son of Arlin T. and Beatrice Cahill Doane, and is a graduate of Bethlehem High School, class of 1954. He went on to graduate from the University of New Hampshire in 1958 and received his master’s degree from the University of Hawaii in 1975.

He married Bernice L. Burlock in Bethlehem, New Hampshire, in 1958.

Charles served in the United States Navy for 20 years, retiring as a Lt. Commander. For 10 years he was the business manager for a school district in Maine. His last career was owner and operator of The English Meadows Inn in Kennebunk, Maine. Being an innkeeper was his dream and he loved meeting and talking with guests from all over the world.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Bernice Burlock Doane of Kennebunk, a daughter, Beverly Doane Green and her husband Michael Stearns from Newport, Rhode Island, and his son, Jon Christopher Doane of Kennebunk, a sister, Nancy Hildreth of Ashland, Massachusetts and was the loving grandfather to Zachary and Hannah Green of Newport,

Rhode Island.

Charles will be buried with military honors at Newport Memorial Park in Middletown, R.I. in a private graveside service.
