Wesley Mills

Wesley David Mills, DDS

Feb. 3, 1960 – Sept. 28, 2016

To know Wes was to love him. There was no more passionate outdoorsman, no kinder funnier guy and no better friend to many than Wes “Millsy,” Dr. Mills. Wes was born and raised in Cumberland/ North Yarmouth, son of Carolyn and Wesley R. Mills, along with his two brothers David and Glenn.

Wes loved everything about his great state of Maine – the mountains, the ocean, the lakes, the trails, the people. His passion for skiing, hiking, biking and boating was boundless, so was his energy and optimism. There was always just one more ridge to summit in Wes’ view. His kindness, his gentle teasing and quick wit always gathered a crowd, on the slopes of Sunday River or the shores of Stage Harbor.

Wes’ lifelong friend and wife of 34 years, Lisa, shared his love of life, music and friendship. Theirs is a sweetheart story beginning at Taylor University. After marriage in 1982, they lived in Indianapolis where Wes attended Indiana University School of Dentistry obtaining a Doctorate of Dental Science in 1986. They then moved to Kennebunk to join the practice of Dr. Joseph Iriana. The partnership of Dr. Robert Card and Dr. Mills formed Kennebunk Family Dental Care and was later renamed Kennebunk Center for Dentistry.

Wes’ compassion, commitment and humor with his patients and his team were infinite. He made many people smile – literally – with his innovative cosmetic dentistry. 2016 marked Wes’ 30th year of practicing excellence in dentistry.

Wes brought the same devotion and passion to his work and improving patients’ lives as he did to his family. Wes and Lisa raised two beautiful talented children, Wesley William and Alyssa Cassandra in Kennebunk. Following his father’s legacy, Wesley is currently attending the University of New England College of Dental Medicine. Aly lives in Boston, working in corporate merchandising at TJX.

Wes travelled the globe in search of deep powder with his ski posse – Jordan Bowl to Japan, but his favorite place to be was with his family, whom he was immensely proud of. His deep personal faith in God was evident to those who were closest to him.

Wes always brought his best, and gave it purely, humbly, genuinely. Wes was taken too soon and suddenly after his valiant battle against renal cell carcinoma. He passed peacefully at 5:25 a.m. Sept. 28, 2016, at Mass General. He had been moved to a large private room to accommodate his many visitors, fans and family. Wes is survived by his wife, parents, children, brothers and a multitude of family and friends.

A celebration of Wes Mills’ life will be held at 6:15 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at a sunrise service on Narragansett Point, Kennebunk Beach. A reception will be held 1 to 5 p.m. at Vinegar Hill Music Theatre, 53 Old Post Rd, Arundel.

In lieu of flowers, the family is working on plans for a tribute to Dr. Wesley Mills.
