Opinions can be offered without being nasty

To the editor:

Last week’s paper had a mean-spirited letter to the editor disparaging the character of Jay Kilbourn, chairman of Kennebunk Light and Power. Words associated with organized crime like fix, syndicate, and manifesto were used to criticize his opinion regarding dam removal.

I have known Jay Kilbourn for over 20 years. Our kids grew up together, he goes to my church and I know he cares a lot about our community, not just about the issue to dam or not to dam.

Everyone’s entitled to their opinion about whether relicensing the dams is a good idea or not, but if you disagree with someone it doesn’t mean you have to be nasty about it.
