State rep candidate

To the editor:

We are writing to support the candidacy of Diane Denk for state representative of new District 9. In spite of having no prior experience in the dental field (except as a patient), Diane agreed to serve as the public member of the state of Maine Board of Dental examiners. She quickly took to the position with gusto, learning new terminology, but quickly developing a take on the nuances of the profession.

Some of Diane’s major accomplishments include:

• Represented 1.3 million citizens as its public member on the Maine Board of Dental Examiners for five years.

• Read and analyzed lengthy, technical board books, and attended monthly meetings and hearings in Augusta, often lasting from early morning into the night.

• Reviewed proposed regulatory changes, profiles of those seeking licensure, case files detailing charges brought against professionals, and a myriad of other issues related to the regulation of the dental profession.

• Consistently brought her A game, came prepared, with an open mind and asked good questions to clarify issues in order to form a solid opinion.

• Diane was the first lay vice president elected in Maine Dental Board history.

Diane is a great leader who connects to a variety of political persuasions. We support her completely, as a friend and neighbor, and as a reasonable leader who will try to understand all points of view.

We like Diane.
