John Eldridge

John S. Eldridge, Jr., 89, of Kennebunkport, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2016 in Kennebunk, following an extended illness.

Mr. Eldridge was born in Maine in 1926 to the late John S. Eldridge and Grace B. Eldridge, both of Kennebunkport. He grew up and went to school in Kennebunkport. His parents owned the Maine Stay Guest House and Cottages on Maine Street.

John Eldridge was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 159 of Kennebunkport. After completion of his naval service, Mr. Eldridge attended, and graduated from the University of Maine.

He then embarked on a long career in the pulp and paper industry that took him away from Maine. He retired and returned home to Kennebunkport in 1985. He enjoyed his retirement years in his hometown and could often be found pursing his lifelong passion at Cape Arundel Golf Club.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Ann Eldridge.

Mr. Eldridge is survived by his wife of more than 60 years Olive, their son, John S. Eldridge, III, and his wife, Brenda, and their two daughters, Erin and Kathryn.

Mr. Eldridge will be buried at Arundel Cemetery in Kennebunkport in a private ceremony. The family requests that donations in his memory be made to the Town of Kennebunkport Public Health Department 101 Maine St., Kennebunkport, ME. 04046 or Kennebunkport EMS PO Box 1761, Kennebunkport, ME 04046
