It’ll be a sad day if dams are removed

To the editor:

As an 11-12-year resident of Kennebunk, I have enjoyed the Mousam River and have in past years photographed the three dams in Kennebunk and two more upstream. I understand that there are a total of 13 dams that affect this watershed.

I’ve taken images this past week from the west bank of the Twine Mill pond stretch of the river. This is one of the most beautiful spots in Maine that I have ever seen.

If the Twine Mill dam is removed this river will revert to a small stream with muddy banks that will grow up with weeds.

The kingfisher that I witnessed flitting from tree to tree and the beaver evidence on the pond bank will be gone. How sad.
