Dig it up, uh, oh, oh

While dignitaries and class presidents post for a photo, Bunky, the Kennebunk High School mascot, sneaks in one extra shovel full of dirt, during groundbreaking ceremonies April 6 for a $42.8 million renovation. However, heavy equipment arrived on site and started work April 4. “We were so excited to get started on this project, we started a couple of days early. We hope you don’t mind,” said Tim Sommers of PC Construction, which is overseeing the project. According to Superintendent Katie Hawes, portable classrooms will arrive over April vacation. The cafeteria, which will close over the summer, will not come back on line until December, when the science labs and new gymnasium are also scheduled to open. Alternate meal plans are being put in place for the start of the school year. The new portions of the school will open in phases, with the full project due to be done in December 2018.
