Robert Wagor

Robert E. Wagor, 89, of Lyman, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 13, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his children.

Robert was born on Jan. 3, 1927 in Fairport, New York, the son of Marguerite (MacKay) and Robert H. Wagor. He graduated from Fairport School.

At 18, he enlisted in the US Navy. World War II ended on the very day his ship sailed under the Golden Gate Bridge. After he was discharged, he attended the University of Buffalo and received a degree in pharmacy. Robert returned home and took over his father’s village pharmacy.

Robert was very involved with the community, serving on the school board and as an active member of Fairport Rotary.

The Wagor Drug Company flourished until 1975 when urban renewal demolished the downtown of Fairport and he sold his business to Wegmans. He then moved to Maine with his wife Gwendoline, a prominent watercolorist, settling first on the coast and then in the woods of Lyman, practicing pharmacy at CVS until he retired. At one point he was the oldest pharmacist in Maine!

Robert was known for his spectacular red beard and remarkably sunny disposition. Whenever asked about his day his response was always, “Sensational!”

Robert is survived by his children, Andrew, Susan, and David and his wife Peggy; and his grandchildren, Zachary, Rawley and Carson. The family wishes to thank Dr. Arthur Scott for his strength and friendship over the last 40 years.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family
