Maine Democrats prepare to caucus

To the editor:

Super Tuesday is soon upon us and soon thereafter Mainers will have the opportunity to exercise our right to vote.

Local Democrats from Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel will caucus on Sunday, March 6 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Middle School of the Kennebunks. Doors open at noon and it is important to arrive before 1 p.m. If unable to join the excitement, there is still a small window of opportunity to cast an absentee ballot by contacting www.mainedems.org and submitting a ballot to Augusta, no later than 5 p.m. on March 2.

Engaging in the democratic process is not only a responsibility of concerned citizens, but I view it as a privilege to join my Democratic neighbors.

The caucus is more than choosing a presidential candidate and getting to know our local representatives. We also elect delegates to Maine’s State Democratic Convention to be held conveniently in Portland on May 6-7.

The delegates are the ones who actually cast the state votes – without them our votes are not counted. Please consider helping voice our choices for the next U.S. president.

Participating in a caucus does take some time (two hours), but it is a wonderful way to share ideas, listen to neighbors and share in the energy and excitement of the season.

We are also collecting new gloves and socks to distribute to York County Homeless Veterans. Please provide a helping hand for the vets and democracy.

Amy Davidoff Arundel
