Gina Merry

Gina Geary Merry, of Arundel, passed away on Jan. 25, 2016. She was a true lover of life. Gina was the daughter of Edward and Patricia Geary and the seventh of 10 children. She was born and raised in New Jersey. Her parents and siblings meant the world to her. Each of her sisters and brothers were her favorite and she shared special bonds with her many nieces and nephews.

The two of us met in 1977 on our first day of college. We were rarely apart from that day on and soon became soul mates. We married in 1983 and instead of responding with the traditional wedding vow of “I do,” Gina shouted a resounding “You Betcha.” She was a much-loved addition to the Merry family. No matter the circumstance, Gina greeted each day with a beaming smile and a cheerfully sung “good morning.” I will miss this the most.

Gina was a voracious reader and especially enjoyed early morning walks, time spent at the beach and gardening. She was a fantastic cook and a joy to share meals with. Gina was competitive and a true sports fan. She reveled participating in sports as well as cheering on her favorite players and teams. March Madness was a particular favorite. Thanksgivings spent around family, food and football were her most cherished memories.

Professionally, Gina achieved her designated real estate broker’s license, certified appraisal license and certified Maine assessor license. She served as the town of Lyman’s tax assessor for the past eight years. She loved her work, would fight her way into the office on days it appeared she was too ill to move and even worked from her hospital room during an extended stay.

I would like to extend a special thank you to Gina’s coworkers, board members and community for all your love, care and support. Also to the many members of “Gina’s Team” for taking great care of us, thank you.

Gina didn’t require much because she felt she had everything. Gina believed deeply in giving back. She served on a number of boards, gave of her time often, was a top fundraiser for two years at Mary’s Walk in Saco and helped start Lyman’s annual food drive.

She loved and was well loved.

Gina was predeceased by her loving parents, sister Andrea Gleave, mother-in-law Mary Joan Merry, sister in-law Bitsy Geary and brother in-law Jerry Oliviero.

A celebration of her life was held on Jan. 30, 2016 at South Congregational Church, 2 North St., Kennebunkport. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the York County Shelter Program, P.O. Box 820, Shaker Hill Rd., Alfred, ME 04002.
