Louise Hanson

Louise G. Hanson, 98, of Wells, died Saturday evening, Jan. 2, 2016 at her residence. She was born in Somerville, Massachusetts, on July 18, 1917, the daughter of Frank and Lena (Lawrence) Clarke.

Louise moved to Maine following her mother’s death in the flu epidemic of 1919. She grew up in Wells, graduating from Wells High School in the class of 1936.

On Oct. 3, 1936, she married C. Henry Hanson. They shared 52 years of marriage until his death in July 1989.

Louise worked at Kesslen Shoe in Kennebunk. She and Henry then founded the Original Wells Doughnut Company, which they ran together for 31 years until 1984.

After selling the business, Louise worked with her daughter Barbara, proprietor of Elms Centre Gift Shop in Wells.

Louise is predeceased by her husband, C. Henry Hanson.

She is survived by her three daughters, Barbara Hanson of Wells, Gloria McBride of Kennebunk, Carol Adams of Kennebunk; and four grandchildren.

Calling hours will be on Thursday, Jan. 7 from 11 a.m . to noon, followed by a funeral service at noon at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 111 Chapel Road, Wells.

Burial will follow in Ocean View Cemetery, Wells.
