Eugene Cooke

Eugene (Gene) Lambert Cooke, 88, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and summer resident of Kennebunkport, passed away on Oct. 3, 2015.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Rosalie (Lee) Cooke, daughter Deborah Cooke Smith (Bob Fleischman), son Eugene L. Cooke III (Rosemary), three stepsons Drs. Andrew, Neal and Alan Seymour and 11 grandchildren Geno and Kara Cooke, Hunter Smith, Katie (Mike) Gawne, Max (Chelsea) Baumann, Joseph, Joshua, Jacob and Hanna Seymour, Jillian and Fletcher Seymour.

Born Aug. 26, 1927 in New Haven, Connecticut, Gene attended St. Edmund Catholic Grade School, Xavier High School in Brooklyn, New York, and was graduated from Georgetown University in 1949.

He served in the U.S. Navy in 1944 and 1945.

Gene started his professional career at Moody’s Investor Services in Manhattan, and then joined White Weld & Co., an, investment banking firm, also in Manhattan, where he worked in retail investment management services and then as partner until its acquisition by Merrill Lynch in 1982.

Thereafter, he formed New Harbor Financial Corp.; a Ft. Lauderdale-based private equity firm focused on real estate development opportunities, working there through his passing.

Funeral services were held at St. Anthony Catholic Church, 901 NE 2nd Street, Ft Lauderdale. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to St. Anthony Catholic Church, Ft. Lauderdale or Xavier High School, Brooklyn, NY.
