Love to watch them strut

The 21st annual Strut Your Mutt walk began at 11 a.m. sharp, Sunday, Sept. 13, at Mother’s Beach in Kennebunk. Thanks to sponsorship from Kennebunk Savings Bank, all registration fees and pledges from the event, the largest fundraiser of the year for the Animal Welfare Society, go to help pay for the medical care of pets up for adoption at the West Kennebunk shelter. As the largest fundraising event of the year for the West Kennebunk-based shelter, the walk is crucial for completion of its mission, to ready unwanted and abandoned animals for adoption. That’s no small task, given AWS spends nearly $150,000 per year just on the medical care of its charges. However, thanks to sponsorship from Kennebunk Savings Bank, all registration fees, pledges and other sponsorship dollars from the strut go directly to The Sadie Fund, a medical care account named for an 8-year-old Shih Tzu who, despite arriving at AWS in 2000 with a host of medical issues, including a severe skin allergy, Lyme disease and kidney failure, still charmed staffers with her huge heart and abundant zest for life. Sadie was adopted into a loving home and lived another eight years to age 16, typifying the goal for all pets who pass through the doors at AWS.
