Library announces featured artist for August

An exhibition titled “Photos and Paintings of Maine Landscapes” by Brandy Cressey will be on display at the Kennebunk Free Library in the Speers Gallery through Aug. 30. The public is invited to view the exhibit during regular library hours when the gallery is not in use for library programs.

“My current body of work is a reflection of my attention to detail, my sense of color, my philosophy on life and my love of nature; specifically through landscape paintings of the oceans and trees of southern Maine,” Cressey said. “Painting for me is about the process of creating; being in the moment, documenting the passage of time, paying attention to details and creating a world that shows the beauty that I see in front of me. The act of painting is meditative; this sense comes through in my choice of bright colors, forms and subject matter, which produce a quiet sense of happiness in the final piece. My paintings are studies in color, process, detail, atmosphere, time and spaces.”

Cressey works primarily with acrylic paints on wood, board or canvas, “which allows me to add layers of color and create harmonious transparency.,” she said. “I grew up along the beaches and forests of southern Maine. Before the age of 5 my talents as an artist began to emerge. Drawing was my first love during these early years and it is through my close attention to detail and my early education that I learned to create the detail that my paintings are known for. Upon graduation from high school I attended Rhode Island School of Design.

“After a year at RISD I transferred back to southern Maine and completed my bachelor of fine arts degree at Heartwood College of Art.”

Cressey is working toward an associate’s degree in graphic design at York County Community College.

The exhibit will be featured in the third ArtWalk Kennebunk of the Season to be held on the Aug. 21 from 5 to 8 p.m.

• Kennebunk Free Library will host its Community Yard Sale on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or Shine.
