Local clergy ‘join as one’ with people of Charleston

To the editor:

We, the members of the Clergy Association of the Kennebunks, express our deep sadness and extend fervent prayers with the members and friends of the Emmanuel AME Church of Charleston, S.C., and the surrounding community.

Such acts of violence and racism which they have endured tear at the heart of our shared faith traditions and have no place in civilized society.

However our local faith expressions may differ, we stand united in the tears we shed for the innocent who lost their lives in their place of worship.

May such deeds only serve to further our resolve of being people of peace in the midst of violence. We join as one with the people of Charleston and far beyond.
