Claudia M. Kelly

Claudia M. “CoCo” Kelly, 65, of Windsor Commons, Kennebunk, formerly of Wells, succumbed to illness on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. All who knew her know that she put up a fight.

Claudia was born April 11, 1950 in New Rochelle, New York, the daughter of Eugene B. and Helen Comer Kelly Sr. and is a graduate of Portland High School, class of 1968.

From the late 70’s and throughout the 80’s, CoCo and her parents were the Innkeepers at the English Meadows Inn at Kennebunk’s lower village. With her sense of humor and wit, she made friends from all over the world. CoCo had many talents and passions. She played both the guitar and piano and had an exceptional singing voice. An avid antique collector, she had exquisite taste and an eye for detail. Her collection was previously showcased and sold at Salt Wind Farm Antiques.

CoCo was also well known for her devotion and advocacy for all animals, providing immeasurable support to Safe Haven in Wells, the Animal Welfare Society in Kennebunk, along with many other animal causes.

Additionally, CoCo was a caregiver to many friends and family members.

She dedicated her last 15 years to assisting her friends with the raising and nurturing their children, as well as ensuring the well-being and comfort of her uncles and her father until their passing.

She is survived by her Aunt, Sister Sylvia Comer, of the Order of Sisters of Mercy in Standish, her goddaughter, Katherine “Vada” Hedrington of Cranston, Rhode Island, her beloved dog Kevin, four cats; June, Owen, Pippa and Bitty, several cousins and a wide circle of friends that she considered family. Claudia will be laid to rest along her parents and uncles, Donald Kelly and Warren Fitzsimmons.
