June Cummings

June V. Cummings, 84, of Kennebunk, passed away April 25, 2015 at Bradford Court, Huntington Common, after a brave battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was proud to claim she was child No. 14 in a family of 20 children born to Flora and Marinus Lindquist. The Lindquist family moved to Kennebunk in 1946; June graduated from Kennebunk High School in 1948.

She was married in 1949 to Warren Wright, who died in 1975. June was the proud mother of three daughters, Bonnie, Gail, and Norma, who all predeceased her, victims of Huntington’s disease.

June loved to sing, and often performed at the 50 Plus Club, nursing homes and fairs; she often sang for her church, Kennebunk Baptist. She could harmonize and yodel beautifully. In 1947, June was a specialty singer on the radio with the Tony and Waneta Show.

June was employed for many years with the Atlantic and Pacific (A&P) grocery store as a bookkeeper.

She was an active member of Kennebunk Baptist Church, and Order of the Eastern Star.

In 1975 she married Joe Cummings, and together they opened Cummings’ Market in West Kennebunk, where they had a successful business. June also had her own beauty shop in her home on the Ross Road in Kennebunk.

She was preceded in death by 10 brothers and five sisters.

She is survived by five grandchildren, Juliann, Kent, April, Carl and Jason; one great grandson, Timothy; three sisters, Anna, Emma and Doris; one brother, Irving.

The family wishes to thank the thoughtful people at Huntington Common and Hospice of Southern Maine for the very special care they gave June during her last days. God bless you all.

Visiting hours are Thursday, May 7, 2015 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with an Eastern Star Service at 12:45 p.m. at Kennebunk Baptist Church, 77 Main St., Kennebunk, followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. with Pastor James King officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Kennebunk.
