Each year, two graduating athletes in each of the 18 conference schools are recognized for the award based on their performance in academics, school activities and community service. The principal at each school names the award recipients.

Hoch, an All-Academic track and soccer player, captains both teams at Kennebunk High School and was named the most valuable player on the soccer team in 2014. She is a Maine Soccer Coaches’ Association All Star and a member of the All-Star Conference team.

An AP Scholar, Hoch also is a peer helper and member of the high school debate team.

Outside of school, Hoch spends her summers volunteering at Maine Medical Center.

The daughter of Deborah and Michael Hoch of Kennebunk, she intends to pursue a degree in engineering and business.

Eric Yemma is captain of the Kennebunk High School ski team, for which he is a three-time recipient of the Coach’s Award, and co-captain of the boys’ cross-country team.

During his sophomore year, Yemma represented the high school at the SMAA Leadership Summit Conference.

As a senior, he was master of ceremonies for the school’s 9/11 tribute.

A member of the Class of 2015 Executive Council for all four years of his high school career, Yemma emceed two class fundraisers — Cabaret Night and the Senior Auction. Like Hoch, Yemma also is a peer helper. The son of Kathleen and Eric Yemma of Kennebunk, he plans to attend college to study business and communications.

Hoch and Yemma received their awards from the Western Maine Conference on April 7 at the Italian Heritage Center in Portland.
