Continue the fight for future generations

To the editor:

I am disappointed with the group of individuals who wrote the Feb. 19 letter to the editor suggesting the town of Kennebunkport should drop the Goose Rocks Beach lawsuit. Dropping the case now would be shortsighted.

Yes, I am displeased with how much time this case has been dragged out, but we are nearing the end. Why stop now on fighting a dispute that could have severe repercussions not only in town, but across the state?

I ask that the group of individuals who wrote the letter, and those (if any) that share the same feelings to take a step back and think about how this would be more beneficial for residents.

These “benefits” would do two things: end the lawsuit and save the taxpayer chump change compared to what we have already spent. These benefits are short-term. By staying in the case we continue to fight for the rights of our future generations. My family has enjoyed Goose Rocks Beach as a public beach for generations and I intend to keep it that way for my kids, future grandkids and their kids.

I typically sit on the sidelines when it comes to town politics, but this case has turned our town upside down.

I was always taught to finish what I started. When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
