Student invited to state Geo bee

Nathaniel Durham, an eighth-grade student at the Middle School of the Kennebunks, is moving up in the world.

Durham is one of 100 students invited to participate in the 2015 Maine National Geographic State Bee in Farmington, March 27.

After winning his local competition, in which students were grilled with a host of geography questions, Durham had to submit a qualifying exam to the event sponsor, the National Geographic Society, which issued invitations to the state meet based on test scores. If he wins the state meet, Durham will advance to the 27th annual national meet in Washington D.C. May 11-13, with a shot at a $50,000 college scholarship.

Durham is the son of Ian and Alyson Durham of Kennebunk.
