MSK mathletes score big

Andrew Ladd, a seventhgrader at the Middle School of the Kennebunks is set to represent Maine at the national MathCounts competition in Boston this May. Ladd won his spot as one of four bound for the big meet from the Pine Tree State following his second-place finish as an individual at the state MathCounts meet, held March 7 at Kennebec Valley Community College.

The MSK team won third place overall among the 12 schools pre-qualified for state level competition based on regional meets held earlier in the school year. In addition to Ladd, MSK’s competitive mathematics team included eighth-graders Charlotte McCulloh, Sawyer Lachance, and Brandon Hauser. McCulloh placed sixth in the state as an individual.

Two additional students, Nick Teguis and Owen Chestnut, also participated, having qualified to compete as individuals through their performance at the regional competition held in Gorham on Feb. 7.
