Kennebunkport makes ‘safest’ list

Home security website Safewise.com issued a list of the “20 safest cities in Maine” on Feb. 16, and Kennebunkport fell in at No. 14.

In compiling its list, Safewise reviewed 2012 FBI crime report statistics for all Maine municipalities with more than 3,000 residents. It found that Kenneunkport had just 0.28 violet crimes and 13.73 property crimes per 1,000 people that year.

Fort Kent ranked as the safest place in Maine, at 0.24 violet crimes and 3.43 property crimes per 1,000 people. Other York County towns making the list were Eliot (No. 2), South Berwick (No. 4), North Berwick (No. 8), and Buxton (No. 11).
