Support of Elder Elves is much appreciated

To the editor:

Once again the Elder Elves at the Senior Center at Lower Village in Kennebunk were able to put together gift bags for 46 elderly residents in Arundel, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport, who are alone at Christmas and struggle to make ends meet.

Senior Center members worked tirelessly to gather donations from local businesses and sometimes used their own funds to provide practical gifts for the recipients.

Norway Savings Bank graciously hosted our Giving Tree.

When we put the word out that we needed help to finish the bags with gifts like Hannaford food cards, the outpouring of support was wonderful. We offer thanks to the members of our community that donated money or gift cards to help us round out these gift bags. Thank you also to the businesses that provided items to put in the bags and to residents who dropped off goods.

The response we have gotten from Elder Elves gift bag recipients in the past tells us the program is so appreciated. Some seniors say they open a gift each hour of Christmas Day to enjoy each item fully.

The Elder Elves program has provided gift bags to seniors who are alone at Christmas for more than 20 years. We think of children during the holidays but it’s heartwarming to know our friends and neighbors care about bringing cheer to senior citizens at this time of year as well.

The Senior Center at Lower Village wishes a Merry Christmas to donors, members and friends, including the Kennebunk Post, who helped the Elder Elves program succeed another holiday season.
