Town prepares to sell surplus items

Kennebunk is looking to unload a collection of vehicles, mowers and snowblowers.

Because the town’s purchasing policy gives Town Manager Barry Tibbetts authority to sell any surplus item valued at less then $3,000, he will handle most of the transactions, including those for two GMC pickup trucks and a Ford Crown Victoria. The policy does recommend obtaining three competitive bids for items valued at more than $1,000. The Crown Vic does not make that cut. A list supplied by Finance Director Joel Downs suggests it could go for as little as $200.

Only three items are expected to undergo an auction or formal competitive bid process before the board of selectmen finance committee. Those include two Holder sidewalk tractors (valued between $3,000 and $5,000, each) and a 12-yard Tenco body/sander (valued between $2,500 and $4,000).

The town expects to fetch between $13,500 and $22,200 if all 13 available items are sold. A full list of inventory for sale can be had by emailing Public Works Director Tom Martin at tmartin@kennebunkmaine.us.
