Dennis, Cape Porpoise resident and well-known photographer, just published a book, “Gooch’s Pooches: The Dogs of Kennebunk Beach.”

Kennebunk Beach is “one of the most popular dog parks in the whole country,” Dennis said. “It’s really a very picturesque place to go, especially if you like dogs.”

The 70-page photo book includes more than 110 pictures of dogs on the beach doing all the things a dog can do. He collaborated with friend and dog lover Annette Hall Quezada for the project.

Dennis admits that for him to publish a photo book of exclusively dogs is “kind of unbelievable because I’m more of a cat person,” but he did admit that interacting with so many dogs and their owners was a “valuable” experience. “It’s been very much an enjoyable learning experience,” Dennis said. “I’ve never owned a dog, (and) I never really understood the intense bonds that exist between dogs and their owners. After observing them I understand those bonds, how obedient they can be and how much the owners love their dogs.”

(Bob Dennis photo) Dennis and Quezada spent last summer taking photos and befriending dogs and their owners. Being on the beach so much helped Dennis realize just how great a locale Kennebunk Beach is.

“It’s a great socialization place. Not only do they get to play with other dogs, the owners get to socialize with and meet other people,” Dennis said.

Included in the book are pictures of George H.W. and Barbara Bush’s dogs.

Dennis also has had his photos published for the Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel Chamber of Commerce, and Yankee Magazine.

His pictures have also appeared in a number of local restaurants and galleries.

Copies of “Gooch’s Pooches” are available at the website for his annual Kennebunkport calendar and www.goochspooches.com.

Dennis is also available for custom dog portraits.
