Destruction of political signs is shocking

To the editor:

As a longtime resident of Kennebunk, I was recently proud and pleased to learn that my town was voted the safest place to live in Maine. These feelings were destined to be shortlived, however. The extensive criminal activity that is now occurring involving the theft, destruction and sabotage of political signs supporting a yes vote on Question 1 leave me feeling both shocked and saddened that this is happening in Kennebunk and I’m wondering just why.

Do I feel safe here now? The answer is no. Where does this lead, when political discourse descends to this level?
