Kennebunk Free Library to host author

Local author Kimberly Sue McLaughlin will present her book, “Come Running When I Call” at the Kennebunk Free Library, 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21. McLaughlin has written sci-fi, children’s books and poetry, “but I’ve never put much effort into getting them published,” she said. “‘Come Running When I Call’ is my only work that I feel so passionate about, that I’m willing to struggle, sweat, and persevere to bring to a publisher’s and the public’s attention.”

For almost 26 years, McLaughlin had an extraordinary horse in her life, Trixie, who liberated her with her unconditional love.

“To Trixie, my looks, clothes, intelligence – none of that mattered,” McLaughlin said.

“Come Running When I Call” is a coming of age memoir that portrays the highs, lows, and the in-betweens of horse ownership. It takes the reader on a journey through the triumphs, sacrifices and joys of having a deep personal bond with a horse. It touches the reader with the power of a horse’s ability to heal and uplift the human spirit.

McLaughlin hones her writing by taking classes at UNE’s Maine Women Writers Collection and by participating in five online writing groups.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call the library at 985- 2173.
