Seacoast Garden Club schedules Oct. 6 meeting

The first meeting of the Seacoast Garden Club will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6 at the Community House,.

Ken Janes, a Kennebunk resident, is the presenter. For more information about the club and attending the meeting, contact Sue MacCachran at smaccachran@roadrunner.com.

The Community House is located on Temple Street in Kennebunkport. The program is titled, “Birds of Kennebunk Beach and the Mousam River.” Janes has combined his life-long interest in birding with his new passion of wildlife photography.

The presentation will feature photographs taken over a three-year period showing the many common year-round birds of southern Maine, as well as the diverse migrants that use the beaches and estuaries of Kennebunk Beach on their annual journey from South America to the high Arctic.

While not every bird is represented in the slideshow, Janes has recorded more than 175 species of birds in this small area, some well-known and some quite exotic.

Time will also be spent on bird identification and discussion about how to preserve fragile ecosystems for the future.
