Arthur Adams

Arthur Paul Adams, 81, of Oak Run, Kennebunkport, died May 23, 2014 at Maine Medical Center.

Arthur was born Dec. 6, 1932 in Milford, Massachusetts, son of Arthur C. and Edith (Tessicini) Adams. A music lover, Arthur taught himself to play the saxophone and keyboard. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1950 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. Among his favorite accomplishments while in the Army were serving as a driver for a general and playing saxophone in the Army band.

After his service, Arthur earned his associate’s degree from Bentley College in accounting. An avid sports fan, he played baseball and football in high school and college. After graduating from college, he was a bank manager at Medway Savings Bank. After retiring from the bank, he worked for 18 summers at the front desk of the Colony Hotel in Kennebunkport.

Arthur enjoyed travelling with his long-time partner, Ellie, and loved to walk the beaches of Maine and Florida. He had a beautiful voice and was the lead singer of his band Sun for many years. He sang with a choir in Florida in his later years.

His Sun bandmates were among his closest friends, as was Ralph DeLucia, his dearest friend since childhood. He and Ellie enjoyed live theater and served as ushers at Biddeford City Theater. He followed the Red Sox and Tampa Bay Rays baseball teams.

Arthur was predeceased by his infant daughter, Dawn Kelly Adams, and brother, David J. Adams.

He is remembered and greatly missed by his longtime friend and companion, Eleanor Thompson. He is survived by his son, Jordan Adams (and wife Corinne) of Tampa, Florida, their children, Hailey and Parker; and his daughter, Meredith Adams Shephard, of Foxborough, Massachusetts, and her son, Timothy.

A celebration of Arthur’s life will be held Tuesday, June 17 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Elks Club on Pond Street in Franklin, Massachusetts. The celebration will be preceded by a Mass at St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 4 p.m.
