Richard Motes

Richard L. Motes, 69, of Kennebunkport passed away after a long illness on Friday, Dec. 20, 2013. Although he had many debilitating health issues, Richard remained strong while keeping a positive outlook and taking care of those that loved him. He was often seen employing his keen sense of humor to bring smiles to the faces of those around him.

Richard was born July 23, 1944, in Portland, Maine, to Constance Mae (Gordon) Harrison, and Wilson Brown Motes. He grew up in Shreveport, Louisiana, and graduated from Bossier City High School in 1963. Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War.

Returning home to Maine in 1967, Richard built a successful painting business and a beautiful family. In 1978, he became the owner/operator of the Goose Rocks Beach Motor Inn and soon after began a professional real estate career and founded Sand Dollar Real Estate in Goose Rocks Beach. He was a successful businessman and loving father.

Richard was predeceased by his sister, Gloria Brown.

He is survived by his son and daughterin law; Wilson (Bill) and Laurie Motes of Tampa, Florida; his daughter; Heather Motes of Arundel; his grandchildren; Mariah Perez Gonzalez, Tyler Motes, Matthew Motes and Sophie Motes; his brother and sister-in-law Robert and Ellen Motes of Oil City, Louisiana; brother David Motes of Virginia and sister and brotherin law Jan and Jim Walmsley of Texas.

A graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Port Road, Kennebunk on Saturday, June 7, 2014 at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are welcome.
