The New School schedules open house for May 3

The New School, an independent high school, will host a spring open house for prospective students and the general public 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 3. Guests will be treated to wood-fired pizza, grilled in an outdoor pizza oven built by students.

The New School offers high school students small, seminar-style classes and a rich, experiential curriculum that challenges students to be active and reflective learners.

Visitors will meet students who are preparing for their intensives, three weeks of exploration and travel that offer life-altering experiences. This year a group of students is getting the school’s new sailboat ready for a three-week cruise around Long Island Sound that will incorporate astronomy, math and marine biology studies.

Another group is getting ready for a trip to a ranch in Kansas where they will work and learning about agriculture, the history of the Great Plains and prairie restoration. Other students are preparing to immerse themselves in photography, hiking the White Mountains, or making and observing art in New York City
