Plots available at Park Street School Community Garden

The Park Street School Community Garden welcomes new community gardeners for the 2014 growing season. With the addition of the Park Street School site in 2013, Kennebunk now has two community gardens.

The West Kennebunk site at the end of Holland Road is already filled for the 2014 growing season and maintains a waiting list. While the two gardens are different, both are dedicated to offering new or experienced gardeners opportunities to grow fresh produce for their families.

A portion of each garden is dedicated to the Maine Harvest for Hunger program. Produce grown in the MHH gardens is harvested and delivered to local food banks by garden volunteers.

The Park Street School site has 4-foot by 4-foot and 4-foot by 8-foot raised beds available. Each renter/ gardener is expected to nurture their own plot and to volunteer a small amount of time to overall garden maintenance, such as planting, weeding, and harvesting in the MHH garden. Last year, Kennebunk’s community gardens contributed more than 2,046 pounds of fresh vegetables and herbs to local food banks.

The Park Street School garden is designed to enable gardeners of all ages and abilities, with wheelchair access and help for those who need assistance.

Both community gardens are administered by the town of Kennebunk Community Garden Committee. To join, visit www.kennebunkme.us/communitygarden and download the application kit. Fill out the forms and bring them to the town clerk’s office for enrollment.
