Gallery announces featured artist

During the month of May 2013, the works of artist Deirdre O’Brien will be on display in the Speers Gallery located in Hank’s Room at Kennebunk Free Library, 112 Main St., Kennebunk. Her exhibit “Imaginings” is a collection of illustrations done in watercolor, markers, ink, pencil and acrylic.

O’Brien draws inspiration from a multitude of sources.

“As an art student, I am still exploring my style and artistic boundaries,” O’Brien said. “Ever since I was a small child, I have been writing and illustrating my own stories, an interest that has only grown over time. I am currently studying illustration and animation.

“My art is strongly character-driven and among other things, I am inspired by books and music, history, mythology, folk tales, the human body, architecture, clothes, cultures from around the world, and even by the tea I drink as I work. I am interested in working as an illustrator, a graphic novelist, and/or a concept artist.”

O’Brien has studied art at Kennebunk High School, York County Community College, River Tree Arts and Sanctuary Arts, in addition to other areas of study.

The public is cordially invited to attend an artist’s reception 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 5.

The exhibit may be viewed Monday and Tuesday 9:30 a.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday 12:30 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Friday and Saturday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
