Faerie houses accepted at library

Kennebunk Free Library will once again host an exhibition of faerie houses in anticipation of the May Day Faerie Festival. Faerie houses will be accepted for display from April 22 to April 30. Houses will remain on display until Saturday, May 10.

Now is the time to gather downed branches, bark and seashells for building faerie houses. Remember to use only fallen materials; faeries rebel if living plants are damaged. Houses should be on a base no larger than 14 inches by 14 inches and constructed with natural materials, as faeries are allergic to plastic. Because the houses are displayed on top of bookshelves, the maximum height should be 30 inches. If building materials are needed, stop by the library’s Children’s Room.

All members of the community are invited to visit the Children’s Room of the library, to see the creations of local children. The faerie house exhibition will be on display in the Children’s Room until Saturday, May 10, at which time builders can put their faerie home in their own garden.

The annual Faerie Festival will be at the Kennebunk Free Library on Saturday, May 3 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Crafts and activities for lovers of faeries and gnomes will be available.

The event is free, wheelchair accessible and open to all. For more information, call 985-2173, ext. 5 or visit the www.kennebunklibrary.org.
