Library to host genealogy webinar

Kennebunk Free Library’s genealogy group will feature a live webinar by Lynn Palermo – aka the “Armchair Genealogist” – at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1.

The presentation will be followed by a question and answer period. Palermo, a freelance writer and family historian, is an Ontario native who has authored her own family history book and has written articles for several genealogy magazines, including Internet Genealogy, Family Chronicle and Discovering Family History.

Palermo maintains that her primary focus is to provide the tools to not only discover ancestors, but also write their stories.

“After all, what is the point of genealogy if not to write the stories of our ancestors as a legacy to the generations to come,” she said.

She willingly shares information on how to research your family tree via the Internet.

Lynn is also the originator of the Family History Writing Challenge, a 28-day commitment to writing family histories, which takes place Feb. 1 through Feb 28.

Participants decide the number of words a day – 250, 500, 1,000 – or whatever can be worked into a schedule.

Those interested may sign up for the challenge regardless of participation in the library’s genealogy group, and those who sign up will receive a free downloadable workbook to help write a family history.
