Library announces a temporary change

Kennebunk Free Library will have a new HVAC system installed during December and January.

“We are very excited to have an efficient and energy-conscious system installed,” stated Library Director Jill LeMay, “especially after a summer without air conditioning.”

The library’s board of trustees selected the bid from Mechanical Services in Portland to install the new system; the work will begin Monday, Dec. 9.

In order to allow both enough time in a workday as well as access to the library by patrons, Mechanical Services will tailor its work schedule, beginning at 4:30 a.m. and working until 1 p.m. The library will adopt the following schedule for the month of December: Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, the library will be open from 1 to 8 p.m., Fridays from 1 to 6 p.m., and Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. A schedule of hours for January will be announced soon.

“By staying open later in the evenings, we hope to continue to offer our services and collections to patrons,” said LeMay.

Library programs that typically occur in the morning, such as book groups, children’s programs and knitting programs will be rescheduled to the afternoon or go on an early December break.

Due to HVAC work at the library, and the resultant change in library hours, story times will take a break starting Dec. 6. Families are welcome to continue to visit the library, borrow items and play with the puzzles, puppets and other toys.
