School board ignored community pleas

To the editor:

A defiant Regional School Unit 21 school board ignored pleas from three communities last month and voted 7-2 to hold an election in mid-January on the most expensive school building project our three towns have ever seen.

Town clerks, selectmen and town managers from Kennebunk, Kennebunkport and Arundel joined with citizens and the two Arundel school board members objecting to this foolish plan.

RSU 21 is going to hold this important and financially long-reaching $75 million school renovation vote on Tuesday, Jan. 21, the day after the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend.

Hey, what better way to get your project passed. Hold the vote on an icy, snowy January day when tax-paying snowbirds have flown to the south and others find it very hard to leave their homes.

For shame RSU 21 for trying to eliminate the potential for opposition.
