‘Gasland’ to be shown at First Parish

“Gasland II,” filmmaker Josh Fox’s follow-up to his Oscar-nominated film, “Gasland,” will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22 at First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church in Kennebunk. Admission is free and dessert will be served at 6:30 p.m.

All filmgoers are asked to bring an item of nonperishable food for the York County Shelters Program food pantry. The film church’s Social Justice Committee and Maine Sierra Club are sponsoring the film.

Fox uses his trademark dark humor to take a deeper, broader look at the dangers of hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, the method of extracting natural gas and oil, now occurring in 32 countries.

“Gasland II,” which premiered at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival, shows how the stakes have been raised on all sides.

The Los Angeles Times calls “Gasland II,” “haunting and provocative.”
