Brunch to raise funds for Seeds of Hope

The Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center, located in downtown Biddeford, will mark its fifth anniversary by holding a “Give Thanks ~ Give Hope” benefit brunch 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 24 at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunkport.

In addition to a brunch prepared by Nonantum chefs, the event will feature live music by Ocean Ave, southern Maine’s classic rock, rhythm and blues band. Guests also will have the opportunity to participate in a raffle for a wide range of outstanding prizes, including golf outings, a resort weekend, fine dining gift certificates and a range of other items donated by businesses throughout southern Maine.

“We invite our friends and neighbors to join us in a Thanksgiving celebration that will help kick off the holidays and also provide critical support for the many persons in need in our community,” said The Rev. Shirley Bowen, executive director/chaplain, of the Seeds of Hope Neighborhood Center. “We launched Seeds of Hope in 2008 as the financial crisis began to hit Biddeford and surrounding towns hard. We sought to meet some basic needs by providing hospitality – a simple breakfast, companionship, articles of clothing – in a safe environment. As we mark our fifth anniversary, we find that the needs are still growing. We have been fortunate to have had broad community support for our efforts from area churches, community organizations, and businesses. This brunch offers us the opportunity to reach out to an even wider audience.” Tickets may be purchased online at seedsofhopebrunch.brownpapertickets.com.
