Justice for Mary plans bench dedication

The group Justice for Mary invites members of the public to attend a bench dedication ceremony in memory of Mary Ellen Tanner.

Tanner was a Kennebunk High School student who was murdered in July of 1978. Her case remains unsolved though it has recently been re-opened. Craig Tufts, a former Kennebunk resident, donated the funds to purchase a bench and plaque in Tanner’s memory.

A ceremony to dedicate the bench will be held Sunday Dec. 1 at Rotary Park in Kennebunk at 4 p.m. Hot cider and doughnuts will be served and paper lanterns in memory of Tanner will be released. Silicone Justice for Mary awareness bracelets will be available for a donation and a limited number of Justice for Mary T-shirts will be for sale. All funds raised will go toward the Mary Ellen Tanner Memorial Scholarship fund.

To make a tax deductible donation directly to the Mary Ellen Tanner Memorial Scholarship Fund, send to Kennebunk-Kennebunkport Alumni Association, P.O. Box 272, Kennebunk, ME 04043. Make checks payable to the KKAA with a notation on the check that the money is for the Mary Ellen Tanner Memorial Scholarship Fund.
