Golf tournament raises charity funds

The Webhannet Charity Golf Tournament was held on Sept. 15 at Webhannet Golf Club in Kennebunk Beach. The tournament featured a format of using only one club per participant, a gourmet pre-tee-off brunch, a $500 putting contest prize and a silent auction that included Red Sox and Josh Groban concert tickets.

Net proceeds from the tournament amounted to $30,000. Half of that money has been dispersed to three local charities: Toys for Tots Saco, Community Bike Center of Biddeford and Kids Free to Grow-Child Abuse Center of York County.

The remaining $15,000 will be used by the Webhannet Charitable Foundation for future donations to charities in southern Maine.

In addition to 37 hole sponsors from individuals and area businesses, key sponsors included the Lighthouse, Kennebunk Beach Realty, HM Payson, Alisson’s Restaurant, Hillcrest Driving Range, Wink’s, Dairy Queen and Hurlbutt Designs. Additionally, Friends of Webhannet donated $5,000.
