Annual garden tour offers insider’s peek

The annual Private Gardens of the Kennebunks Tour is set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, July 13. Participants will have the opportunity to tour eight intriguing gardens in the Kennebunks. The tour will also feature gardening expert Paul Parent. Guests will have the opportunity to hear him speak on a variety of topics, with a new subject at the top of every hour.

“This is a wonderful event that supports Kids Free to Grow, York County’s only organization dedicated to child abuse and prevention” said Gretchen Pianka, MD, who serves as president of the Kids Free to Grow board of directors. “This is the 19th year we’ve hosted the event, and some of our guests have not missed one. They expect a grand time, and we are ready to deliver yet another exciting Tour of spectacular gardens.”

Details of the gardens are being kept under wraps.

“All of the gardens have their own unique stories and are sure to inspire,” said Pianka. Volunteer docents will be available at each location to welcome guests, offer refreshments and help answer questions about each property.

The self-guided tour is scheduled for Saturday, July 13. Tickets may be purchased online at www.privategardens. eventbrite.com.

Tickets are also available at Marlow’s, Focal Point Garden Center, Kids Free to Grow office and Carrots & Co. Itinerary guidebooks and maps are available only on the day of the tour and can be picked up at any of these locations.

All proceeds benefit Kids Free to Grow. Event sponsors are Kennebunk Savings Bank, Digital Research, the Wells High School basketball and SoldonBetsy.com.
